ART

YESTERDAY

It was necessary to come closer, be involved and create a listening for invention. Life scenes permanently in movement, the presence of certain stories, and marks in the subjectivity, the creation of a space for silence and for a kind of loneliness hosted something which was being prepared a long time ago.

Ontem [Yesterday] deals with that place in the memory, both that place from the artist’s childhood, populated by fairy tales, and the own narrative of these stories, with an ancient origin, which acquired layers with different versions, as time passed by. What’s interesting about these works? Their flows, their clashes and facings, their invitations, preparations, their courage and involvement.

Katia’s series show interests which appeared very early in the artist’s life and perpetuate creation fields, which continue and make themselves present. The desire of drawing, painting and photographing makes her take back a path with critical intensity. The works enunciate a sensitive strength and update its singular female experience by different sensations, mobilized by images produced in experiences with paradoxical qualities: fanciful, delicate, shredded, devastated, pleasant, misleadingly persistent, provocative. All these settings are present in a controversial contemporaneousness and open a debate about this topic. Contemporary female experiences blend with memories, and their variations resound in paintings, photographs, objects, installations, poetic narratives.

The works define places and, in an extension, communicate with the male form, provoking it, qualifying emotions, pointing out weaknesses and violence. Female and male, layouts treated like sensitive and contemporary matters, are sometimes clothed in humor and fun, other times in gravity. Images are paradoxical: fantasy clouds, dreamlike scenes, realities, lucidity and sensations revisited from the past time incarnate the current materialization.

When exercising similarities and difference, an invitation is made. It is about finding out, in the shapes presented by Katia, how to access the erotic strengths, those which bind us to life, which cure us, which turn on the wish to live, to carry on and to live with intensity.
